Overview
The MTF-02P is the micro sensor that works outdoors: a high-performance ToF rangefinder gives it 6 m of range even in 70 klux direct sunlight and a tight 2° beam, while the whole module stays at 1.5 grams — GPS-free position hold for tiny whoops, 2–3 inch micros and any weight-critical build. 50 Hz UART output; ArduPilot, PX4, INAV and FMT supported.
Before you fly: the airframe comes first
An optical flow sensor corrects the flight controller's estimate — it cannot rescue a vibrating airframe. Balance props and check vibration first: the setup guide shows the exact checks for each firmware.
Specifications
- Range: 0.02–6 m @ 90% reflectivity — rated even at 70 klux, outdoor-capable
- Range accuracy: 2 cm (0.02–2 m) · 1.5% (>2 m) — 940 nm ToF, 2° FOV
- Optical flow: 42° FOV, max 7 m/s @ 1 m height, needs >60 lux and ground texture
- Interface: LVTTL (3.3 V) UART, 115200 baud, 50 Hz · Protocols: MAVLink (ArduPilot / PX4), MSP (INAV), Micolink
- Power: 5 V · Size: 21.6 × 16 × 6.5 mm · Weight: 1.5 g · Operating temp: −20 to +85 °C
Rated range is measured against a 90%-reflectivity lab target — over grass or dark asphalt any rangefinder reads shorter. Details in the manual.
Firmware & protocol — automatic
Current-production units auto-detect your flight controller's firmware on power-up — wire it, power it, done. Manual override is available two ways: solder pads on the back of the board (highest priority — see the pad guide), or the free MicoAssistant tool.
Which MTF sensor?
- MTF-02P (this one): micro + outdoor-capable — the default micro pick
- MTF-02: 1 g, indoor only, when every gram counts
- MTF-01 / MTF-01P: 100 Hz data and 8–12 m range for 3–5"+ builds
Package list
- MTF-02P module × 1
- 20 cm SH1.0 4PIN–4PIN cable × 1
- 20 cm SH1.0–MX1.25-6P cable × 1 (for Pixhawk 2.4.8)
- 20 cm SH1.0–GH1.25-6P cable × 1 (for Pixhawk 4/5/6)
